Makela Brizuela is a visionary creative force in the Los Angeles tango community.

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she trained for ten years in modern dance and ballet, receiving her degree from the National School of Ballet of Argentina.

Over the past twelve years, she has taught, danced, performed, and choreographed tango around Argentina, Mexico and the U.S . She has performed in prestigious venues such as the Alex Theater (2007), the Red Cat (2005), The Ford Amphitheater (2003), and was the creator, producer and director of the show Tango Cabaret (2002) at the Museum of Latin American Art. In addition to performances, Makela provides group and private tango instruction, and hosts some of Los Angeles' most popular weekly practice sessions.

The second show that Makela created, choreographed and produced is URBAN TANGO, which was presented at the Electric Lodge on September 2006 with an overwhelming response.

Tickets sold out for most of the shows with excelent reviews. Urban Tango ( " A Magical Performance" according to the Yogi Times) was presented again on February 3rd and 4th, 2007 at the Electric Lodge and it is looking for a producer.

Makela’s specialty is technique and grace. For ladies: she focuses on what makes a woman dance more beautifully and easily. For men, she concentrates on what makes a man a soft and clear leader so that a woman would love to dance with him.

In the last couple of years, Makela had brought some of the most talented tango dancers from Buenos Aires to teach and perform with her. The list includes Fabian Irusquibelar (from Tango Metropolis, and Copes Troup), Javier Rochwarger and others.

Who are Makela's teachers? Makela started dancing ballet and modern dance since she was a little girl, and focused on tango 12 years ago. Her training was mainly in Buenos Aires and include teachers such as Roberto Herrera, Jorge Dispari, Dana Frigoli and Pablo Villarasa,  Dani, and Chicho. During the summer of 2002 Makela trained intensily with Armando Orzuza to substitute Daniela who was in Buenos Aires with her first newborn child. Makela also trained/practiced ongoingly with Fabian Irusquibelar during the last 10 years. Fabian has came to Los Angeles to teach and perform with her  on 2005 and on 2007.
